ARPS Visual Art Panel
The ARPS distinction is based on 15 photographs which are viewed as one coherent panel rather than individual images. The panel is typically based on a theme and presented in three rows of five images which are expected to be balanced in appearance (i.e. blending and working together in terms of shape / composition, light and dark images, and colours). The panel is accompanied by a Hanging Plan and a 'Statement of Intent'.
Dartmoor Impressions - Statement
The aim is to create impressionistic images of Dartmoor, capturing the basic form, colour, mood and movement in this wild and often bleak landscape. The images reflect three different spatial scales or sub-themes, the broad sweep of the moorland, the wooded valleys, and water, the primary force that shapes the landscape.
I have captured these images primarily ‘in camera’ with slow shutter speeds and minimal adjustment on the computer. They represent ‘paintings with light’ that are recorded with the camera or subject moving through space and time. The inherent variability of the process results in individual images that cannot be readily repeated.
